Dr. Tufan Adigüzel

Biography

Prof. Dr. Tufan Adigüzel completed his undergraduate education in math education at Marmara University, got his master’s degree from Boğaziçi University’s Seconday Science and Mathematics Education Department in 2001 and his PhD in Education Psychology and Technology at Texas A&M University in 2008. He started his career as a multimedia software and program developer at a private company in 1996, and continued as a Research and Teaching Assistant at the Department of Mathematics at Yeditepe University between 1999-2002, as an expert on distance education in education technologies between 2002-2005, and a researcher in the fields of STEM education (Aggie STEM Center) and technologies for students requiring special education between 2005-2010 at Texas A&M  University. Between 2009 and 2020, he worked as a faculty member in the Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technologies at Bahçeşehir University, and also served in administrative positions as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Science, Learning Design & Technology Master’s and Doctorate Program Coordinator, and Founding Coordinator of Distance Education and STEM Offices. He has many national and international projects, articles and books on computer/programming education, distance education, transformation with technology in the fields of science, mathematics and special education. Dr. Adigüzel has joined Ozyegin University as the Director of the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Office as of September 1, 2020.

Dr. LaToya Austin

Biography

Dr. Austin is a native of Missouri City, Texas. She attended Texas A&M University where she received a B. S. in Applied Mathematical Sciences, and M. Eng. in Industrial Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Mathematics Education. Her dissertation focused on estimating the reliability and validity of a survey intended to measure pre-service mathematics teachers’ beliefs about equity and problem solving in the middle grades.

Dr. Ali Bicer

Biography

Dr. Ali Bicer is an assistant professor in the School of Teacher Education at the University of Wyoming (UW), where he teaches courses in mathematics and science methods and mathematics seminars since 2018. Dr. Bicer received his PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a mathematics specialization from Texas A&M University in 2016. Right after receiving his PhD, he started working as a postdoctoral research assistant in Aggie STEM at Texas A&M University until 2018. Prior to starting his masters and doctoral program at Texas A&M University, he taught mathematics for three years in secondary and middle schools.

Dr. Antonio Guadalupe Carranza III

Biography

Dr. Antonio Guadalupe Carranza III is a Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics at Laredo College. He was born in Laredo, TX. He has been at Laredo College for the past 18 years and is currently involved as a Leadership Excellence Academic Preparation STEM (LEAPS) Undergraduate Research Faculty Partner, LEAPS Summer Bridge and one of the RAPID Faculty Research Partners (RAPID-FRP). He has worked on the current NSF RAPID grant #2035954 to teach quantitative skills to STEM students using COVID-19 data. He is currently working on a $1,000,000 NSF grant as a Co-PI. He was part of the College Board Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) Mathematics Item Review Consultant. He was also part of the Focus on Student Success (FOSS). He was also a Mathematics Coordinator for the Mathematics Department at Laredo College. He also teaches General Education Development (GED) courses at Laredo College’s Continuing Education Department. He earned the Most Outstanding Educator of the Year in 2017 at Laredo College. He also has a certified Quality Matters (Q.M.) College Algebra online course and seven more online courses on the pipeline for Q. M. He received his PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Mathematics Education from Texas A&M University in College Station. His dissertation and research focused on Examining the Success of Student in Developmental Mathematics Courses in a Mostly Hispanic Border Town Community College. He also earned his Masters of Interdisciplinary Studies in Mathematics, Sociology and Psychology from Texas A&M International University. He earned his Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics and minor in Sociology from Texas A&M International University. He joinged Laredo College in 2004 as a mathematics instructor then became a Teaching Professor of Mathematics in 2018. His interest is teaching all levels of mathematics courses and undergraduate student research. He was previously employed with the Laredo Independent School District at Katherine F. Tarver Elementary School as a 5th grade mathematics teacher. He was also previously employed at United Independent School District at United South High School Academy of Global Business & Advanced Technology as a 9th-12th grade mathematics teacher. He was also a U.I.L. coach for both districts. Dr. Carranza believes students should be actively engaged in constructing their own knowledge and exploring new mathematical ideas and concepts. His classes contain tasks for engaging students to participate and communicate in mathematical activities. Dr. Carranza has taught mathematics undergraduate classes through face-to-face, hybrid, and Q.M. virtual online, which attests to the versatility of his teaching.

Biography

M. Sencer Corlu, PhD (Texas A&M University Aggie STEM 2008-2012), is a professor of mathematics education and the director of BAUSTEM Center at Bahçeşehir University, İstanbul-Turkey. Dr. Corlu has published over 40 articles on mathematics teacher education, STEM education, and international schools. He is the principal investigator of externally-funded STEM: Integrated Teaching Project. One outcome of his project was the earlySTEM program, consisting of 35 books which are being used by over 50,000 students and their teachers each year. Dr. Corlu is also the co-founder of LabStarTM–an innovative, low-cost device for data logging and analysis.

Dr. Meixia Ding’s research and teaching focus on elementary mathematics education, an interest she developed through five years of mathematics teaching in China. More specifically, she focuses on how the instructional environment can be better structured to develop students’ sophisticated understanding of fundamental mathematical ideas.

Dr. Amber J. Godwin

Biography

Dr. Godwin earned her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University and joined Sam Houston State University in 2018. She previously worked in both Florida and Texas schools as a teacher. Godwin has also worked with AP College Board, Albert.io, and McGraw-Hill and currently contracts with York and National Geographic Learning.

Biography

Dr. Sunyoung Han is an associate professor in the department of mathematics at Sungkyunkwan University. She got her Ph.D. degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a mathematics education specialization at Texas A&M University in 2013 (Chair: Dr. Robert M. Capraro). In the same year, she started the position as an assistant professor at Texas Tech University. In 2015, she came back to Korea and got the position at Sungkyunkwan University. Based on her teaching experience from high schools (2004-2013), Dr. Sunyoung Han is doing her research regarding education for pre-service teachers, teaching-learning methods for mathematical modeling, mathematical problem solving, and data analysis.

Biography

Dr. Tarcia Hubert, a native of Waco, TX, received her Bachelors and Masters of Science in Mathematics from Stephen F. Austin University, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University. She started her own non-profit organization in 2010 called Making Awesome Things Happen (M.A.T.H.), which focuses on providing opportunities for students to receive exposure and access to STEM. Dr. Hubert is a wife and mother to three sons. She enjoys spending time with her family family and loves to travel!

Dr. Diana Piccolo is an associate professor, assistant department head, ELE outreach coordinator and the director of the elementary mathematics specialist program at Missouri State University. Dr. Piccolo is currently a Co-PI on a $4 million DOE grant. Dr. Piccolo attained degrees from Texas A&M University, specializing in mathematics education, gifted and talented education, and statistics.

Dr. Roslinda Rosli is currently a visiting scholar at the Aggie STEM from January 2022-May 2022. She is active in grant research projects, writes and publishes papers, journal articles, books, and book chapters locally and internationally. Dr. Rosli is often involved in developing instructional materials and assessing mathematics textbooks for the Ministry of Education Malaysia.

Dr. Kitty Rutherford received her doctoral degree from Texas A&M University in 2017. She currently resides in Kaiserslautern, Germany and is employed by the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) as the Europe East Elementary Science Instructional Systems specialist. For 30+ years she served as a K-6 classroom teacher, academically gifted teacher, math and science coach, district math and science administrator, school administrator and mathematics consultant for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. She specializes in elementary science and mathematics standards and assessment; creating, planning, and facilitating professional development for teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders; program planning and implementation; and facilitating collaboration and consensus building.

Bart Taylor is a dedicated educator with over 20 years of experience in the field of Career and Technical Education. Bart Taylor graduated from Texas A&M University with an Ed. Biography

Jamaal R. Young, PhD, received his doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University in 2011. Dr. Young returned to Texas A&M University as an Associate Professor in 2020. Dr. Young has previously served as an associate professor at the University of North Texas as well as the University of Iowa. Dr. Young is committed to fostering a sustainable impact on the STEM attainment of all learners. Young examines the effects of opportunity structures related to instruction (e.g., teacher quality, access to technology, or out-of-school time activities) on the STEM dispositions of traditionally underrepresented populaitons of learners. He identifies the most salient factors influencing the mathematics identity of Black male and female learners. Dr. Young also investigates the effects of social determinants (i.e., gender inequity, racial bias, and income level) on STEM attainment. Dr. Young’s research utilizes research synthesis, meta-analysis, and large-scale data analysis to examine the determinants of STEM attainment. Dr. Young is an associate editor of the Journal of Urban Mathematics Education, and is an editorial panel member of the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education. Dr. Young’s work is published in several journals, including Educational Research ReviewInvestigations in Mathematics EducationThe Urban Review, and Journal of Mathematics Education. Additionally, Dr. Young has procured funding from NASA and the National Science Foundation (NSF).
