Associate Members Ranks and Requirements

Level I- Affiliate Member

Criteria – Interest in a symbiotic and affiliative activity in which Aggie STEM has a strong presence. 

  1. Must have a renewable faculty appointment
  2. Be a member of a Texas A&M System College, Department, or Unit
  3. Have a terminal degree
  4. Clear Alignment to support the goals and objectives of Aggie STEM

Expectations Commit to at least two years of engaging with Aggie STEM stakeholders, including     members, associate members, affiliates, graduate students, and students. 

  1. Participate in at least one meeting per year
  2. Collaborate on one or more of the following: grant proposal, paper for presentation, or development of a manuscript for publication in an area supported by Aggie STEM
  3. Support Aggie STEM in the summer by teaching in/or assigning a graduate student to support Teacher Boot Camps (online or in person) or Aggie STEM Camps (total commitment is 1.5 hours per day for 5 consecutive days) 

Application – Required for everyone

  1. Full Vita
  2. Brief statements on the following, 250 words max for each.
    1. What do you hope to achieve with your membership in Aggie STEM?
    2. What strengths do you hope to bring to Aggie STEM that will enrich your own professional growth and that of the other stakeholders?

 

Level II- Associate Member

Criteria – History of a symbiotic and affiliative activity in which Aggie STEM’s mission and vision has prominence. 

  1. Must have been an affiliate member for at least 1 year
  2. Must still meet all criteria for an affiliate member

Expectations Commit to at least two years of engaging with Aggie STEM stakeholders, including members, associate members, affiliates, graduate students, and students. 

  1. Participate in at least one meeting per year
  2. Collaborate on one or more of the following: grant proposal, paper for presentation, or development of a manuscript for publication in an area supported by Aggie STEM
  3. Support Aggie STEM in the summer by teaching in/or assigning a graduate student to support Teacher Boot Camps (online or in person) or Aggie STEM Camps (total commitment is 1.5 hours per day for 5 consecutive days)

Level III- Full Member

Criteria – History of successful collaboration, achieving greater involvement as an associate member, and furthering or extending the Aggie STEM mission and vision. 

  1. Must have been an associate member for at least 1 year
  2. Must still meet all criteria for an affiliate and associate member

Expectations – Commit to at least two years of engaging with Aggie STEM stakeholders, including members, associate members, affiliates, graduate students, and students. 

  1. Participate in at least one meeting per year
  2. Collaborate on one or more of the following: grant proposal, paper for presentation, or development of a manuscript for publication in an area supported by Aggie STEM
  3. Support Aggie STEM in the summer by teaching in/or assigning a graduate student to support Teacher Boot Camps (online or in person) or Aggie STEM Camps (total commitment is 1.5 hours per day for 5 consecutive days)

Only full members and higher with at least 5 years of service may earn emeritus status.

 

 

Aggie STEM Mission

Aggie STEM at Texas A&M University provides research-based solutions to ameliorate STEM academic disparities and inequities through professional development and other school-reform services for high-quality STEM teaching and learning. Aggie STEM transforms lives by catalyzing deep and replicable improvements in STEM content and pedagogy through an innovative, action planning, research-based, and enterprise-focused design. 

 

Vision

For K–12 Students

We will provide either alone or in collaboration with partners:

  1. STEM-centric summer camps for high-achieving students in grades 4–12 while ameliorating disparities for those who are underrepresented.

For K–12 Teachers

We will provide either alone or in collaboration with partners:

  1. STEM-centric summer professional development for elementary, middle, and high school teachers.
  2. Online STEM-centric professional development for elementary, middle, and high school teachers throughout the year that facilitate professional learning of STEM content and pedagogy and Teaching Certificate renewal.

For Post-Secondary 

We will provide either alone or in collaboration with partners:

  1. High-quality interventions spanning STEM fields to improve teaching and learning for post-secondary faculty and students.
  2. Reflective and investigative solutions to unpack and deinstitutionalize systemic issues related to underserved populations, women, first-generation status, and racial disparities and marginalized students’ ability to succeed in the post-secondary classroom.
